Pocket Progressions

Each week my co-host and I will select a type of ensemble, instrument, or style to highlight within the world of Jazz. Additionally, over the course of the hour we will progress through the timeline to arrive in the current era. Our playlist will be sequenced based on the date of the recording. Tracks will be selected on the basis of players' significance in the scene and unique arrangements, as to pique the well-versed and the jazz-curious. To an extent it will educate listeners but will also cater to those wanting background music to study to. While Jazz is prevalent on Oberlin campus, some have yet to dive into its huge and ever-growing discography. There is a degree of arrogance and academia that surrounds the genre, which traditionally isn’t very approachable to new listeners. With this opportunity we hope to cultivate new life long listeners of Jazz.
